Space Hulk: Deathwing Summer Trailer Released

French publisher Focus Home Interactive have put out a new trailer for their upcoming foray into the Warhammer 40k universe, Space Hulk: Deathwing.

Deathwing is based on Space Hulk,  a 1989 board game by Games Workshop that is set in the 40k universe. Taking its cues from science fiction horror classics such as Aliens, the premise of Space Hulk is that a team of Space Marine Terminators are sent to investigate the Space Hulk, a blanket term for a mass of abandoned starships and assorted space debris that is infested with grotesque alien creatures called Genestealers.

A real time tactical game based on Space Hulk was developed for DOS, Amiga and PC-98 in 1993, followed by a 1995 release for the 3D0. A turn-based version was made by Full Control for the PC in 2013, although it received mediocre reviews.

This new version, Deathwing, will be a First-Person Shooter for the PC and PlayStation 4; an Xbox version has not been confirmed yet. A press release from Focus Interactive describes the game as such:

Players take on the role of a Space Marine from one of the most secret and most feared Space Marine Companies: the Deathwing from the Dark Angels. Strap on your Terminator armour and equip the emblematic weaponry of the Space Marines to overcome the threats awaiting you in the Space Hulk. As a Librarian, you will also master the destructive powers of the Psykers. Your skills and performance in battle grant you Fervor Points, to spend on 4 skill trees allowing you to improve your abilities, unlock new powers, access powerful relics and devastating new weapons.

The impressive looking trailer is apparently in-game video that shows off the game’s Unreal Engine 4 graphics, and depicts the player character, a Deathwing Librarian, along with his fellow Deathwing Terminators fending off a horde of Genestealers with familiar Warhammer 40k weaponry such as the Storm Bolter and Assault Cannon.

Space Hulk: Deathwing is being developed by Streum On Studio, a French developer best known for making E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy.  The game is expected to be released sometime next year.
