After releasing a handful of “consoles” and handheld emulator devices to his online store, SouljaWatch, and being forced to pull them shortly after, Soulja is back at it again, though it seems like the gaming community has picked up on his antics quicker than last time. Soulja Boy was recently guest on Everyday Struggle, a morning debate show from Complex on YouTube. During the show, while talking about Soulja’s emulators, one of the hosts, DJ Akademiks, holds up the SouljaGame box and asks, “Can I play Fortnite on this?” Soulja was quick to answer (and quick to backtrack), “Yes. We’re working on it, we’re working on it. Not this one, on the next one you can.”
While Soulja Boy talks a big game, his “game” may be a little less than truthful. Senior PR Manager Nick Chester from Epic Games responded to DualShockers about the claim shortly after. “No, you can’t play Fortnite on a rooted or jailbroken device due to anti-cheat measures.” Seems like Soulja Boy is both ahead of his time and ahead of his licensing agreements too. Soulja Boy doesn’t let his failures rattle him though. After being forced to pull his SouljaGame consoles from the store, he posted a short Tweet, and then it was business as usual (though apparently securing the rights to run Fortnite on his consoles was not on his itinerary).
Currently, the SouljaWatch store is down, which he touches upon in the Everyday Struggle interview as well. He states that his ex-cameraman was invited to his Shopify, hacked it after he got mad at Soulja, and took the site down the night before the Everyday Struggle episode. Since the episode aired January 17, that means that Soulja’s shop has been down for almost two weeks. While Soulja Boy works to get the site back online, many wonder what his next move will be. Having already announced an eSports team, purchased Subway (which surprisingly, did not go well), and called out rappers during his Breakfast Club interview, he may run for president (or at least SNL thinks so).
