Soul-Chained Is A Souls-Like Game With A New Concept

Kyroware Games is a solo development studio based in London whose first major release, Soul-Chained, has recently gone viral after YouTuber Iron Pineapple covered it in his video. The souls-like has some wonky physics, but the chain appeared to be a promising concept.

Soul-Chained takes the concept of games like Elden Ring and the Dark Souls franchise, but makes it multiplayer compatible, forcing two players to be attached to one another through glowing chain. The chain can be used to trip enemies in the universe, which players must master before taking on the mini-boss located within the demo of the game. Each character can function as if they were fully autonomous, slashing, rolling, hacking, and dodging attacks so long as they remain within the chain length of the partner. If someone strays too far, they’re yanked back and forced to spend time on the ground getting up.

The game also features platforming as a key element, as players must navigate across chasms of death and seemingly impossibly small perches while learning how to ride the chain as if it’s a zip line. While the demo was designed for two players, the game is planned to allow up to four players to link together.

Souls-Chained also has a fair bit of lore behind it, suggesting that the people chained together were once bitter rivals, which holds a large amount of potential in terms of gameplay and fight concepts. For now, both players become each other’s last hope for salvation, according to the press release.

The announcement trailer for Soul-Chained showcases the game’s sprawling map featuring immense castles, towering battlements, magical entities, beasts with wings, and even a large, snaking monster in the sky. While the game’s scope is much larger than the demo currently showcases, the game’s combat appears to be a weak point, as the weapons sound weighty but don’t seem to react as such.

The official developer of Soul-Chained made a comment on the video that’s now pinned, claiming that he would take on the feedback as development of the game continued, so fans have a lot to look forward to.
