Sony has announced that the next official State of Play will take place this week on Thursday, May 14. However, unlike most of the previous ones, this State of Play will be entirely dedicated to one of the most anticipated PlayStation 4 titles of the year, Ghost of Tsushima. The presentation will commence at 1:00 pm PST/4:00 pm EST and will focus on brand new gameplay footage which will include exploration and combat. Sony also mentions in their post that “there won’t be any PS5 news or updates in this episode” ensuring that this State of Play is only for Ghost of Tsushima.
Sony also states that the presentation’s run time will clock in at about 18 minutes, which is more than enough time for us to take a long gander at some new gameplay for the title. Sucker Punch has been hard at work trying to finish up their new IP, and this upcoming State of Play will be our first true look at the general mechanics as we’re nearing the new official release date of July 17. The previous date, June 26, was delayed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, as was The Last of Us: Part II, another highly anticipated PlayStation 4 game. Thankfully, both games have secured a launch date, with the latter now releasing on June 19.
It’s been a long time coming for the Sucker Punch, as Ghost of Tsushima was announced back in 2017, but has been in the works since 2015, a near five-year development cycle. For those who don’t know, they’re known mostly for their previous works on the Sly Cooper and Infamous franchises, both PlayStation exclusives. Sucker Punch developed the first three Sly Cooper games for the PlayStation 2, all of which were critically acclaimed. They then went onto creating the famous, or in this case, Infamous franchise. Infamous and Infamous 2 for the PlayStation 3 were highly acclaimed by critics and gamers, cementing the studio as one of Sony’s best proprietary developers.
They continued the Infamous series with Infamous: Second Son and its one-time expansion Infamous: First Light on the PlayStation 4. Now, with the advent of the PlayStation 5 this holiday, the company has the opportunity to make Ghost of Tsushima one of the PlayStation 4’s best swansongs as they transition into the recently announced PlayStation Studios brand for the PlayStation 5. As we said earlier, the State of Play for Ghost of Tsushima will take place this Thursday, May 14 at 1:00 pm PST/4:00 pm EST. You can check it out on their official Twitch and YouTube Channels then they go live.
Ghost of Tsushima will launch on July 17 for the PlayStation 4.
