Sony has made a number of notable acquisitions over the past few years in multiple forms of media. In the recent days, murmurs of news insinuating that Sony is interested in buying out the gaming giants known as FromSoftware. FromSoftware have seen increasingly more and more success as their time releasing titles has gone on, culminating in the major success of Elden Ring. Now, owner of FromSoftware, Kadokawa, has spoken out in a formal statement in regards to the rumors going around, saying:
There are some articles on the acquisition of Kadokawa Corporation (hereinafter ‘the Company’) by Sony Group Inc. However, this information is not announced by the Company. The Company has received an initial letter of intent to acquire the Company’s shares, but no decision has been made at this time. If there are any facts that should be announced in the future, we will make an announcement in a timely and appropriate manner.
Although Sony own the rights to both Bloodborne and Demon Souls and were PlayStation exclusives, they do not own the rights to Dark Souls and Elden Ring. This excited many of fans who have been clamoring for a remaster of Bloodborne over the past few years. Even earlier this year, boss at FromSoftware, Hidetaka Miyazaki, discussed his excitement in the potential in remastering Bloodborne:
Put simply, it makes me very happy to see it’s a title with a lot of specific memories, both for me and the staff who worked on it and when we see those passionate voices in the community, of course it makes us feel thrilled, it makes us feel very fortunate to have that and to have those memories.
Being that no comments have been made by Sony, all fans can do at this time is wait and see what happens.
