It seems all anyone can talk about this past holiday weekend are all the DDoS attacks that plagued both Sony and Microsoft networks. While the cyber attacks are currently under investigation, many players are still reeling from its after effects due to intermittent network connections and holiday sales. As a thank you for your continued support and patience during the outage, Sony announced a special “holiday thank you” to all PlayStation Plus members.
Any current PlayStation Plus members, including those who tried out the free trial by December 25th, will receive an extension on their membership by five days. This extension is not currently available, but more information will be available through the PlayStation Blog. Plus members will not have to worry about manually applying the extension themselves because the system will automatically apply the five days for you. If by chance your current membership or free trial offer expires, you will still be qualified for the five day extension, but only when it becomes available.
Also as another thank you, the PlayStation Store will be offering a 10% discount to all PSN members. The discount will be a onetime use code that will be applied to the overall total of your cart. It would be wise to select your purchases carefully and all at once so you can take full advantage of the offer. There is no official word when the discount will be available, but as stated in the blog, it will be available this month. The offer will not only extend to games but also downloadable content, season passes, game add-ons, movies, and TV shows.
I recently wrote an article covering all the holiday sales and was wondering what Sony would do to compensate players for their patience, considering their servers were hit hardest and offline the longest. It is very encouraging that the Sony network is taking action to rectify the outage situation, let’s hope the rest of the month rolls over smoothly for PlayStation members. Please visit the PlayStation Blog for more information.
