Sony Talks About Future of Horizon Zero Dawn’s Protagonist, Aloy

With Horizon Zero Dawn’s release date getting closer with each passing minute, Sony’s UK project manager John Edwards spoke with WCV about how Aloy, the games protagonist, will potentially allow for a franchise to form.

“We’re excited by the reaction that the fans have had to the game so far. We really feel that [Horizon Zero Dawn] is an exciting addition to the array of PlayStation exclusives already available.”

What makes Horizon Zero Dawn stand out is the fact that, other than being a massive open world RPG, the protagonist of the game happens to be a female. As any gamer out there knows, other than the Tomb Raider franchise, there are not many games that host a female protagonist.

For those unaware, the games protagonist, Aloy, was molded to resemble Ygritte from the HBO series Game of Thrones. When asked by WCV on how that came to be, Edwards had this to say:

Guerrilla Games has talked about this in the past and they were very much focused on creating a curious and determined character that was believable in this new world – it just so happened that the character ended up being female. Aloy is spirited, adventurous and driven to figure out the challenges that she comes across in this post-apocalyptic world inhabited by machines, you really buy into her as a tribal hunter and we think that the players will really enjoy playing as her.

Adding just after that Aloy could become “a PlayStation icon of the future” with hopes that the game will be so well received, that a Franchise may be born. Without having been released yet its hard to say whether or not the game will be popular enough to be a hit, although as of now the game is easily considered to be one of the most anticipated games in 2017. With Edwards later in the interview saying that, “Nothing has been announced to date but I think there’s a lot of potential for this to be an exciting new franchise for us – we’ll just have to wait and see.”

Until the games release nobody really knows what is in store for Aloy in the future. Until that day arrives we can only sit back and impatiently wait for the games release date, February 28th, and hope its as exciting as it looks in the trailers.
