In a blog post made yesterday on the official PlayStation website, Sony announced the introduction of the PlayStation Hits label. Specially selected games in the PlayStation 4 lineup will be getting updated box art as well as a cheaper price tag.
Sony has done special re-releases of top sellers for every one of their consoles with one standout exception: the PlayStation Vita. Next week, the PlayStation 4 will be getting the Greatest Hits treatment. Previously, these re-release of video games were called Greatest Hits, but now, Sony has opted to change the name to PlayStation Hits. These selected games mark the re-release of some of the most popular PlayStation 4 titles, and as it has been in the past, there will be a price cute for these titles. The idea behind PlayStation Hits is to garner new fans who might not have experiences these amazing titles with a lower priced entry point. The PlayStation Hits label will start with 15 titles in America, with 14 in Canada, and include titles such as PS4 exclusive Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and the multi-platform Battlefield 4.
The games prices will be cut to $19.99 in both American dollars and Canadian. The re-released versions of these games can easily be recognized by their new red packaging as opposed to the traditional blue, and the online PlayStation Store will give these games a red banner on their listing. The red packaging has been the traditional color for Greatest Hits re-releases for all the previous PlayStation consoles except for the original PlayStation, which used neon green for their re-releases.
The games so far include:
- Battlefield 4
- Doom (Not included in the Canada PlayStation Hits label)
- Infamous: Second Son
- Killzone: Shadow Fall
- The Last of Us Remastered
- LittleBigPlanet 3
- Metal Gear Solid 5: The Definitive Experience
- Project CARS
- Ratchet and Clank
- Street Fighter 5
- Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
- Yakuza 0
- Yakuza Kiwami
This first wave of PlayStation Hits titles will be re-released June 28.
