Following the Trump administration’s Tariff plans, many in the video game industry were concerned how and when changes would take place. Nintendo adjusted its pricing for its accessories. Earlier this month, they also raised the price of its original Nintendo Switch console. Xbox announced price increases for both hardware and accessories. PlayStation has not announced any price changes until now. Sony Interactive Entertainment announced an update on PS5 pricing in the U.S.

“Similar to many global businesses, we continue to navigate a challenging economic environment,” Isabelle Tomatis, Vice President, Global Marketing, Sony Interactive Entertainment, said. “As a result, we’ve made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. starting on August 21.

The PlayStation 5 is now $549.99 from $499.99. The PlayStation 5 – Digital Edition, originally priced at $449.99, is now $499.99. The PlayStation 5 Pro went up $50 from $699.99 to $749.99.

Earlier this year, the trade association behind the CES tech event, the CTA, said that Trump’s tariffs could lead to console prices rising by nearly 70% in the U.S. if they all came into effect. The ESA also released statement on Trump’s tariffs and its impact on the video game industry.

“Video games are one of the most popular and beloved forms of entertainment for Americans of all ages. Tariffs on video game devices and related products would negatively impact hundreds of millions of Americans and would harm the industry’s significant contributions to the U.S. economy. We look forward to working with the Administration and Congress to find ways to sustain the economic growth supported by our sector.”

SIE noted that while the hardware pricing is changing, the recommended retail prices for PlayStation 5 accessories remain unchanged.
