In the wake of E3 and all the wonderful announcements that came out of it, it’s easy to lose track of some of the smaller stories that came out of the event.
One such story is that Sony will be holding demos for its upcoming PlayStation VR in 300 cities starting on June 28th.
Sony originally made the announcement that it would begin demoing PSVR in early April, but only said that it would happen sometime in June. It wasn’t until last Thursday that we got an official starting date for the showcase.
John Koller, Sony’s VP of PlayStation Brand Marketing wrote a post for the PlayStation Blog detailing the event. The demos originally debuted in select 30 cities on June 17th and 18th, but Koller then said that it would expand to more locations the following week. Demos will be held at GameStop and Best Buy locations across the country. To see if there will be one in your area, you can check out this site. Some of the bigger locations include: Chicago, Detroit, Boston, New York, and San Fransisco.
Those who check out the demo will get to play games like PlayStation VR Worlds, EVE: Valkyrie, Headmaster, Battlezone and SUPERHYPERCUBE. That list may seem short right now considering the over 230 game devs currently working on the platform, but Koller assures readers that more games will be added as the console’s October 13th release date approaches.
While the PSVR is currently sold out online, fans had the option to pre-order either the standard edition or the special launch bundle, you can read more about each bundle here.
Sony’s PSVR is technically capable of working on the standard PS4; however Sony’s CEO Andrew House did confirm that the device would run better on the upgraded PS4 “Neo” which House also said was on the way.
It’s a common for people who have tried VR to say “you really won’t understand it until you’ve played it” and with most VR headsets, barring Gear VR and Google Cardboard, being quite expensive this is the best way to convince people to buy the system.
