Sony Hinting Multiple Delays For PlayStation Exclusives

Sony is hinting at multiple delays for upcoming PlayStation exclusives in the second half its fiscal year.

This comes from Twitter user NextGenPlayer, who links a GameRant article on this topic saying, “Sony has delayed “a portion” of their first-party titles.  Wonder which games got delayed.”

In the linked GameRant article, they say that these possible delays were hinted in Sony’s latest financial report, in which the company delayed multiple PlayStation exclusives which were to be released in the second fiscal year, running until March 2024.  According to GameRant, “the company’s latest financial report indicates as much, noting that Sony decided on some “changes in the launch dates of portion of first-party titles” previously planned to debut during this period, as first spotted by Kotaku’s Ethan Gach.”

Although no specific game titles or names were revealed, Sony doesn’t expect these changes to be impactful in terms of projected annual revenue.  This suggests that the delays didn’t reach Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which is still set to release on October 20th.  If it did get a delay, then it might affect Sony’s bottom line for the period.

As for what games did suffer a possible delay, GameRant suggests that Sony was referring to Stellar Blade as the unlucky one, but nothing official, since no games were mentioned by name.  Stellar Blade was announced all the way back in 2019, eventually Sony buying the rights to the studio, Shift Up.  The game had a planned release date of 2023, which was announced last year, but seeing no official release date, the game could have suffered a setback with an unannounced delay, pushing the game into 2024.

Regardless of these delays, PlayStation gamers can look forward to releases that span from cross-platform games to future upcoming first-party games for 2024.  Besides, a delay is better for a game, regardless of what platform the game is on.
