Sony Has Officially Acquired Bluepoint Games

After remaking, remastering numerous Sony PlayStation titles for several years, the inevitable has finally happened. Sony has officially acquired Bluepoint Games, which was revealed in post by the Head of PlayStation Studios Hermen Hulst. In a bit of irony, Sony accidentally revealed this transaction way back in late June when they acquired Housemarque, who are the developers of the hit title Returnal. This more than likely means that the eventual deal was in the works for a very long time.

If there was ever a studio that could, and arguably should belong in Sony’s umbrella system, it’s Bluepoint Games. The studio has been responsible for countless remasters and remakes for the PlayStation, some of which are often considered better than the original. This includes Demons Souls, Shadow of the Colossus, the Uncharted Trilogy, Gravity Rush, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection, and Flower. Needless to say, the studio has a long history with Sony and their IP’s, and the company clearly sees this.

Naturally you’d think that the studio will be readying up to do some more remakes and remasters for Sony, but according to IGN, the opposite is actually happening. The publication reports that Bluepoint Games is going to work on their very own IP, as stated by Bluepoint President Marco Thrush who spoke to IGN. “Our next project, we’re working on original content right now. We can’t talk about what that is, but that’s the next step in the evolution for us.”

Sony has a ton of projects going on right now. We saw a lot of them during the PlayStation Showcase this month, and now that Bluepoint Games has officially joined them the amount of new IP’s, exclusive and not exclusive, are more than likely going to grow exponentially in the foreseeable future.
