Sony Declines to Refund $600 to a PS4 User Who Got Hacked.

On Wednesday a gamer just like the rest of us had received numerous emails from Sony that items had been illegally purchased with his PS4 wallet and that his primary PlayStation had been changed. This gamer also happens to be a reddit user that goes by the tag Kadjar, and at the beginning of Kadjars post he had this to say:”As the transactions came in, one-by-one, it became immediately clear that my account had been hacked. I immediately logged into PSN and removed my card from the account, changed my email and password, and simultaneously launched support chats with both Sony and my bank.”

This is any gamer’s worst nightmare, to lose control of their account and be potential banned because of it. Oh,  and did I not mention this part? Kadjar went on to say that “The Sony representative told me that they are only permitted to refund transactions of up to $150. He also informed me that I could dispute the charges with my bank, but by doing so, my account would be banned from PSN. As a result, I would permanently lose all of my purchases, including the Last of Us Remastered.” To summarize, everything that Sony has told him is as follows:

  • To lose $450 and only get $150 back in credit.
  • The credit will only be given on the PlayStation store and not his bank account.
  • Should Kadjar have the bank reverse the charges, his account will be banned.
  • If his account is banned, he loses any product licenses he has like the Last of Us Remastered.
  • Those licenses can never be recovered.

Kadjars most recent update had this to say: “I received some messages from (I presume) customer service reps at Sony, telling me to message a particular member of Sony’s support team on their forums. I’ve done so, and s/he is looking into the situation. Wow… I never anticipated this would blow up as big as it has! I appreciate all of the messages of support. If this moves Sony to reconsider their policies and invest in better account security, it’ll all be worth it.”

Hopefully Sony will notices that they have a flaw with this policy and can correct it for Kadjar in a timely manner. This is a very unfair situation for Kadjar, and if you like you can read Kadjars full post on reddit here. Make sure to check back with mxdwn games for all your gaming news.
