Sony Announces Playstation VR’s Release Date, Price, Games, And More At GDC

Today as part of a press announcement at popular Game Developers Conference (otherwise known as GDC), Sony release their set price and release date for their PS4 virtual reality device, the Playstation VR.

We can expect to see the Playstation VR on shelves or ready for order in October for all North American regions, as well as Europe and Asia. Be prepared to fork over $400 USD. Although, considering past Playstation prices, and the asking price set by its competition– Oculus Rift ($599) and the Vive ($799)–this might actually not be far off from a fair price.

To make sure that we are able to prepare and deliver enough units of PS VR and a wide variety of software titles to consumers worldwide, we have decided to launch PS VR in October 2016. For those who are looking forward to its launch, we would like to thank everyone for their patience and continued support. We are beyond excited to deliver to consumers the amazing experience that PS VR offers.

Sony stated that over 230 developers, “smaller independent teams to larger studios at the industry’s top publishers,” were looking to work with and release titles with the Playstation VR, including Lucasfilm, DICE, and EA.

The PS VR will also enable users to watch films in what’s being called a Cinematic Mode. With this, everyone can “enjoy 360 degrees photos and videos that are captured by devices such as omnidirectional cameras on PS VR via PS4 Media Player, which will let them feel as if they are physically inside the captured scene.”

As for games we can expect to enjoy on this new virtual reality console, we can look forward to an initial release of 50 games, all listed below.
