Akatsuki has recently announced a business alliance with Sony and Dynasty Warrior developer Koei Tecmo in an effort to improve its overseas business, marketing capabilities and game development.
“…Since its founding, the [Akatsuki] has been expanding its core games business in Japan and overseas with a focus on mobile gaming. With recent market changes and improvements in handset performance, and presuming business expansion outside of Japan, an increasing number of game titles are being simultaneously developed for use not only with mobile devices but also for use on PCs and home consoles,” the press release read.
Additionally, Akatsuki revealed that Sony will own 9.87% of Akatsuki’s shares. Similarly, Koei Tecmo will own 7.97% of Akatsuki’s shares. The agreement will officially start January 9, 2024.
According to the report, Akatsuki wishes to use this opportunity to “build relationships with Sony Group and its affiliates” to eventually expand the reach of current and future Akatsuki mobile games. Akatsuki also hopes to collaborate with Sony in the “co-production and development of new IP and content.”
Akatsuki sees similar dealings with Koei Tecmo in the future and more. With Koei Tecmo, Akatsuki wishes to collaborate in developing “multi-device next-generation live-ops games” and on global expansion, marketing, and publishing of live-ops games.
