A primary focal point of the marketing behind Sonic Racing: Crossworlds, leading up to its release in September, was the promised inclusion of third-party paid DLC characters, as well as several free character additions originating from SEGA’s previous game series and collaborations. So far, SEGA has been able to pull through on this promise, as the September launch and October each saw the individual free character additions of Project Diva’s Hatsune Miku—the game’s first boost type character, and Persona 5’s Joker—a stylish handling type. This being said, as November has begun, gamers can look forward to the next free character release.
Today saw the addition of Sonic Racing: Crossworlds’ third free character, Like a Dragon series’ Ichiban Kasuga—a power type character accompanied by a fittingly hulking “Dragon Brave” power type vehicle. An online Ichiban Kasuga event will begin tomorrow, November 7. As has been the trend for previous character events, players will be pitted against one another in team races that incorporate original characters featured in Like a Dragon to be the face of three teams of four. Further mirroring previous events, gamers can expect the addition of various Like a Dragon-themed customization items, as well as the arguably far more important all-new game-changing gadget parts will be available to be earned via the event’s exclusive reward list. It has been stated that while the gadgets featured in these events are temporarily accessible for a limited time, gamers can rest assured that these gadgets will by no means be unattainable in the future; they are expected to be made available to players through later content updates and patches.
Though the next free character release has yet to be directly confirmed by SEGA, avid fans eagerly await the possible return of well-known guest characters NiGHTS, the playable imaginary friend from Nights into Dreams, AiAi, the lovable rolling monkey from Monkey Ball, and Ulala, the galactic dance battler from Space Channel 5.
