For new fans who have followed the success of recent games and the popular Sonic the Hedgehog films, this remaster will engage those wanting to dive into the “origins” of Sonic. Created and curated by Sega, Sonic Origins was originally stated to be in early stages of development about a year ago, in 2021 during the Sonic Central video presentation. All of the remasterings are revisited by work done primarily by developer Headcannon. Sonic the Hedgehog CD was previously remastered in 2011 while Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 were released on mobile in 2013. This is the first time though, that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles has been re-released.
The game will launch as a digital standard edition that includes the main game and a Digital Deluxe edition which comes with extra content and functionalities. Pre-ordering the game will award players with 100 bonus coins, a mirror mode unlocked and a letterbox background.
