New World is finally out, and players have been loving the new MMO, but there’s just one issue: some of New World’s servers are actually filling up entirely, preventing new players from joining at all.
New World has been extraordinarily well received since its’ release, but it looks like it’s somehow become too well received since it now hosts so many players that nearly 30 of its’ servers are marked as full. As Kotaku reports, the game has been dealing with over-population since the first 24 hours, with 700k players attempting to log in simultaneously. These players were faced with load times that could potentially last around 212 hours– literally over a week.

These issues are mainly focused in the servers with the absolute highest populations, but unfortunately, that also means that the areas with the most players are having the most issues. Amazon has issued a statement recommending new users start new characters on other servers, though they also promised that an update is coming which will let players transfer characters onto other servers.

Amazon has also released a statement stating that characters who have already been created on overpopulated servers should still be able to log in to their profiles, so hopefully players with hours of progress won’t have to start completely over. This is only a temporary fix according to the developers, and Amazon is currently working to increase “the numbers of servers and increase the capacity of all available servers.”
Assumedly, this problem can only last for so long. Over time, players will spread out and won’t be trying to play constantly, which will help to decrease the stress on the game’s servers. Until then, good luck to New World players, both old and new. You can watch a trailer for New World here.
