SNK Reveals New Details on Upcoming Fatal Fury/Garou Title, Calls it a “Big Release”

It’s been a little more than three weeks now since SNK shocked the fighting game community when they announced that brand new Fatal Fury/Garou title was in development. This of course was due to the fact that it had been more than 20 years since the last release, Garou: Mark of the Wolves, and there has been little to no mention of any potential new entry since. At Gamescom, SNK Producer Yasuyuki Oda along with translator Joshua Weatherford spoke with publication Twinfinite and stated that this will be a “very big release” for SNK.

Oda mentioned that when he returned to SNK in 2014, one of the very first things he brought up to the internal department was to revive the Fatal Fury/Garou series. In addition, he also wanted to make a serious emphasis on single-player content, which was a prominent feature during the heyday of the fighting game on the console market. While Oda did not say this outright, and it’s still not confirmed, the idea of a push for a more story-oriented title more than likely helps the idea this project will indeed be a full sequel to the aforementioned 1999 title.

Oda also spoke on the fact that the time gap between Garou: Mark of the Wolves and the upcoming entry is quite massive. Due to this, Oda says that SNK will attempt to implement something to try and get over that narrative obstacle. Oda also hasn’t forgotten about the other major aspect of the fighting game community as he also mentioned that the title will also include multiplayer with online play. Lastly, Oda confirmed that series poster boy Terry Bogard will indeed be in the game. I’ll probably be a little bit longer before we have any more concrete information about the new Fatal Fury/Garou title, but this new tidbit of information only makes us more excited, and we can’t wait to hear more about it.
