SNK has announced what they call the “SNK Universe Project,” which is an initiative for creating numerous forms of entertainment in order to ” increase global awareness” of all their IPs on a massive scale. In order to obtain this goal, SNK is essentially branching out from their main genre of fighting titles, and will be going through other mediums such as manga, movies, anime, and even music. To further emphasize this new venture, SNK has announced that a joint booth with Shueisha will take place in the upcoming New York Comic Con 2023.
In addition, a special movie that details the SNK Universe Project will be shown at the booth in the form of a “Manga Dive Experience.” It will contain a “full-fledged immersive experience that explores the unique world (and history) of KOF.” The acronym is for one of their premier fighting franchises, The King of Fighters, which has been going strong since the early 1990s. Some of their other well-known IPs that they will more than likely showcase here include Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, and Samurai Shodown.
This isn’t the first time that SNK has gone into other entertainment mediums with their IP’s. They’ve released an anime film adaptation for Fatal Fury and a real-life action film based on The King of Fighters. Neither film was received very well upon release, so it’s possible that SNK has learned from those past experiences and it appears that they will be going all in this time around.
It’s also possible that they’ll share some more details about the upcoming Fatal Fury: City of Wolves. The title is one of the most highly anticipated fighting games to come out, as it is the long-awaited sequel to Garou: Mark of the Wolves, which is often considered one of the greatest fighting games of all time. The aforementioned sequel has had fans waiting for more than 20 years, and hopefully, they have a release date or timeframe for us very soon.
