It seemed like an impossible dream, but at EVO 2022 SNK has at long last made that dream a reality. The company has announced that they will be developing a brand new Fatal Fury title and we can only imagine that it will the much anticipated sequel to one of the greatest fighting games of all time, Garou: Mark of the Wolves. This will be the first mainline entry in the Fatal Fury franchise sine the aforementioned Garou, which came out way back in 1999. That’s right, it’s been more than 20 years since SNK unleashed the now popular fighting title, and now they’ve made the entire fighting game community’s dream come true.

SNK also released a teaser video, albeit an extremely short one. It starts off blaring with one of the classic Garou: Mark of the Wolves themes before panning back in a city-like setting. It then pans through areas with shadowy silhouettes, both of whom appear to be Billy Kane and Kain R. Heinlein. The former is a long time stalwart of the Fatal Fury franchise while the latter is the final boss of Garou: Mark of the Wolves. It then shows the full image where main Garou protagonist Rock Howard stands in the center fully colored.

As we’ve already mentioned, it’s been over 20 years since Garou: Mark of the Wolves launched initially in 1999 for the Arcades before being ported to several home consoles. It was also the last Fatal Fury-related title to see a release before SNK became fully committed to putting every single character from all of their IP’s into the King of Fighters franchise. Since then the series has more or less been dormant, although SNK has re-released Garou: Mark of the Wolves several times for home console and most recently PC. Hopefully we’ll hear more about this new entry soon, but for the moment, fighting game fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the long awaited dream is about to become a reality.
