A common, almost facetious, trope, in regards what one would do with the ability of time travel, is to set the clocks back to kill Axis Leader Adolf Hitler. Using the time vessel of gaming, Oxford UK game developer Rebellion decided to take an alternate route: save British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
In real history, Churchill died from stroke, well after WWII ended. In the new DLC for Sniper Elite 3, however, his life hangs in the balance during the historic Casablanca Conference, where allied leaders assembled to talk strategy for the war. Players take control of an OSS sniper to prevent his assassination by Nazi forces.
Save Churchill is the name of the new single-player campaign — according to a press release, co-op support is planned for addition — and it will be released in three installments. The first of these is available now on Steam for PC. It was released alongside The Patriot Weapons Pack, which includes the Springfield Rifle, M3 Grease Gun, and M1911 Pistol. There is a free update that includes a new multiplayer map, “Airstrip.” Three additional free maps are planned for release later this summer.
Rebellion’s Head of Creative, Tim Jones, said, in a press release, that North African environments are planned for the second and third installments of Save Churchill. He said one of these will be the largest level made for the franchise. Jones said the DLC will offer a change of pace for players.
New encounters, new weapons, new unit types … the new missions are going to feel very different.
The DLC announcement can be found below. Rebellion confirms all content will also be released eventually on the game’s other platforms.
