Recently troubled Social gaming giant Zynga has decided to cut four of its current games and to dissolve shuttered developer OMGPOP. As of August 29, 2013, Cupcake Corner, Gem Rush, Pool World Champ and Snoops, all OMGPOP games, will no longer be available for play. Later this month the OMGPOP.com website will be shut down as well.
OMGPOP was purchased outright by Zynga in early 2012 on the strength of its game Draw Something. Zynga has no plans to shut down Draw Something, Draw Something 2 or Draw My Thing.
Don Mattrick, the new CEO of Zynga has stated in regards to strategy:
When it becomes clear what change is necessary, I’ll move quickly and decisively to do what’s in the best long-term interests of our players, our employees, and our shareholders.
