Skyrim Special Edition Goes Gold, New PC Specs

Later this month, one of the most anticipated games for the fall of this year will be released. Bethesda’s five year-old open world RPG, The Elder Scrolls V: Skryim, has been modernized and substantially upgraded by developers for the new Skyrim: Special Edition. The game has overhauled much of the 2011 version and has modernized it with all-new features like remastered art and effects, volumetric god rays, dynamic depth of field, and screen-space and much more. According to Kotaku, yesterday Bethesda announced that their game has now gone gold with just a weeks before its October 28th release.

Along with their announcement they’ve also released the system’s requirements for the PC version (being a 5 year old game, they’re quite modest). Here’s the rig you’ll need:

Minimum requirements

• OS: Windows 7/8.1/10 (64-bit version)
• CPU: Intel i5-750/AMD Phenom II X4-945
• RAM: 8 GB
• HDD: 12 GB
• Video Card: NVIDIA GTX 470 1GB / AMD HD 7870 2GB

Recommended requirements

• OS: Windows 7/8.1/10 (64-bit version)
• CPU: Intel i5-2400/AMD FX-8320
• RAM: 8 GB
• HDD: 12 GB
• Video Card: NVIDIA GTX 780 3GB / AMD R9 290 4GB

The specs for the Special Edition are obviously a bit more demanding than the original from 2011, but the specs aren’t too demanding for most PC’s these days.

As for those buying Skyrim: Special Edition on the Xbox One or the PS4, console versions of will feature all new mod support. Bethesda has previously supported their Fallout 4 game with mod support on the Xbox One, and they’ve also been working alongside Microsoft to bring mod-support for the Skyrim: Special Edition to the Xbox One. However, things were a bit more complicated with Sony, as Bethesda originally had planned to bring mod-support to their PS4, then they cancelled that plan, and just last week they reversed their plan again, until they reached a decision with Sony to bring it to the PS4. So console players can expect to get the full power of mods that PC gamers have been enjoying. For PS4 players, 20 GB of space will be required to install the game and for Xbox One owners, 17 GB will be required.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition will be released for Xbox One, PS4 and PC on October 28th. Console players will have to pay the full retail price of $59.99 while PC players can get the game for a free upgrade if they own the Legendary Edition of Skyrim (on Steam), or the base game and all the DLC’s (on Steam).
