Thatgamecompany will be hosting a fully interactive awards show celebrating the sixth anniversary of its acclaimed MMO, Sky: Children of the Light. The ceremony will be broadcast live in the game on August 15th.
The Sky creator community will all have the chance to attend the Sky Creator Awards, which are a one-night-only live event that recognizes user-generated content made by members of the community who are all competing for the inaugural event’s top honors. Sky’s cinema will be broadcasting the event starting at 6:00 pm PT, which will accommodate thousands of players simultaneously existing on the same server. Developers will present awards to real winners across ten categories. This year, there are two major awards to compete for: the Sky Community Award and Content of the Year Award. Each winner will have the chance to accept their trophy and have a live conversation with the audience.
The Aviary Village around the cinema will be turned into a pre-show spectacle that will spotlight creators with live meetups, performances, and even more interactive content. Players who aren’t creators will also benefit from the in-game schedule of awards and award show activities. There will also be several different events in the cinema and other festivals that should come with awards for the player, according to a press release.
The anniversary celebration trailer showcases a new landscape where characters jump across platforms, soar through the skies, dance on dogs, swim with serpentine creatures, and even walk among large, giant-like designs. Starting July 7th, players will experience the different areas designed for swimming, dancing, and parading. While players are in the area, the cinema will have a 24/7 live stream that includes behind-the-scenes development footage, messages from the developers, a 6-year retrospective regarding the game’s events, seasons, and achievements.
Sky x AURORA homecoming will be occurring in the lead-up to the event in June 2025, featuring breathtaking music as seen in this trailer video. Simultaneously, as in-game activities are occurring, the animated film Sky: The Two Embers-Part 1 will also be streaming in-game starting July 21st, which can also be seen in this trailer video.
