Skitarii, the cyborg warriors of the Adeptus Mechanicus within the Warhammer 40K universe, have made their way to Warhammer 40K: Darktide following the latest update, which has introduced them as a new playable class. Fans have been awaiting their addition for years now, and so far the new DLC by developer Fatshark has been well received.
The Skitarii have perhaps one of the more unique character customization sections of any characters in the game. While all other characters have your standard selection screen that includes options such as face, hair, tattoos, height, etc., the Skitarii customization screen has you choose from one of four decaying, nightmarish-looking torsos from which you can go on to select different mechanical arms and legs for. You can also customize cybernetic eye-color in a way that is reflected in the cosmetics, such as with the goggles/lens of a head cosmetic being colored according to that of what you’ve chosen for your character. Perhaps most interesting is the voice customization, which you can adjust in a variety of ways, including to make sound more robotic and divorced from anything human. There are four personalities to choose from, whose voices you are able to modify.
In terms of gameplay, the Skitarii have a lot to offer. Their skill tree is unlike any other in the game, being circular and allowing the player to go in many different directions and play-styles of their choosing. They come equipped with a variety of unique weapons, including the likes of the galvanic rifle, arc maul, Mechanicus power sword, and transonic blades. They also have access to other weapons accessible by other classes in the game, such as the combat blade, plasma gun, and heavy laspistol to name a few.
The new Skitarii class in my own experience has been fun to play, and I’m looking forward to more time spent maxing it out to level 30. It is truly one of the most unique additions to the game, making it all the more interesting as to what players will create build-wise and how it will play on higher-difficulty modes such as Havoc.
