Nintendo has announced that they will be adding six more titles to their ever growing library for the Nintendo Switch Online service. Four SNES and 2 NES games will be available next week on Thursday, December 12, just in time for those who invested in a Nintendo Switch during the holidays. The biggest addition of these games is Star Fox 2, which was previously only made available on the SNES Classic Edition when it was released in 2017.
Star Fox 2 was a huge selling point for the SNES Classic Edition, so it’s quite a surprise to see Nintendo give this one out. On the flip side, it’s also very exciting for those who skipped out on the SNES Classic Edition and wanted to try it out. Star Fox 2 was the lost game in the franchise that never saw the light of day, until Nintendo revived it for the aforementioned system a couple of years ago. Either way, we’re excited to see it on the Switch, and can’t wait to play through it a second time.
The other three SNES and two NES titles being brought in are some of the all time classics that nearly every Nintendo fan more than likely owned at one point or another. Super Punch Out!!, Kirby Super Star, and Breath of Fire II are all joining Star Fox 2 on the SNES side, while the NES is getting Journey to Silius and Crystalis. As we said earlier, all six games will be available next week on Thursday, December 12. This will bring the SNES library to 24, and the NES library to 50, with the total number of classic titles now up to 74.
In order to have access to these games on the Switch, you’ll need to sign up for a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. There’s three options, $19.99 for one year, $7.99 for three months, or $3.99 for one month. In addition to having these games to play, you’ll also be given the ability to play online with certain games such as Splatoon 2 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
