Silver Pines is a “survival horror metroidvania” by its launch trailer description, starring a detective who’s looking for answers. It’s a brand new game that just launched on Epic Games Store, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox X and S, and Steam, but it already has great reactions and reviews!
The Launch trailer first focuses on “Eddie Velvet,” the detectives’ charge. He interviews a lady about Eddie and his mental state, however the woman cautions him, saying the ominous “It’s you who should be worried. You’re the one in danger right now.” This coupled with the horrific opening montage, featuring a blood red screen, murder, a ruined town place, the protagonist killing some creature and a giant trying to kill him, bloody rain and the faces of abominable beings, really sets the scene.
The protagonist wakes up in a diner and pops open a trunk, a case file, camera and ID are in it, all assumedly related to Eddie Velvet. He goes to a flower shop to interview the lady, then there’s a random man digging a hole next to a trailer. He heads on a cable car, a phone booth rings through the night and the protagonist goes to that very same booth to make a call. The protagonist has an “INVENTORY” where he keeps stuff like a “SHOTGUN” and other stuff.
There are a few mini games in the trailer, and the character gets a very hands-on experience in moving objects. NPC’s have dialogue lines, and the camera from earlier serves as a tool to gain useful evidence. The protagonist gets on a boat, limps and croaks through the streets, then the creatures appear, and he runs from them in different buildings before fighting back. He uses his shotgun to blow up one creature, before the scariest line in the trailer plays: “I’m glad you’ve gotten this far, detective. Honestly, I was beginning to worry you wouldn’t make it.” As massive abominations that shame the trailer’s older creatures appear. It’s hell from there as the protagonist does everything to live, as all sorts of creatures, even one with sonic powers ‘meet’ him.
