Silence of the Sleep is a 2D psychological horror adventure game on Steam Greenlight currently and to be released on Steam in October. The game was worked on and developed by one person, a 24 year old Finnish man named Jesse Makkonen, he has been busy with this game for the last nine months and about 65% is done.
Looking a bit like a hand-drawn Lone Survivor, or might remind you a little bit of The Cat Lady and Konami’s Silent Hill series, Silence of the Sleep puts players in the shoes of a suicidal man, Jacob Reeves, who throws himself out into the blackness to end his misery, but instead wakes up in a nightmare kind of world and no memory at all, where he is only a shadow, but also being pursued by monsters as he tries to sort out what brought him to the place in the first place.
Makkonen mentions on the game’s Steam Greenlight page that he wants the game to be minimal with him not holding your hand and there are challenging puzzles. This game will be 2D side-scrolling with unique, digitally drawn graphics. There won’t be any combat in the game, but there will be enemy encounters that you have to avoid and hide from to survive being that you have no weapons. Not only will the man character Jacob Reeves, be a shadow but they other characters that you come across will be shadows as well. Makkonen said being that Silence of The Sleep is balance with horror and adventure, he wants to try out a variety of atmospheres and mechanics, so it won’t all be gloomy and key-fetching. “I’m trying to bring new mechanics the further you get in the game so the game won’t feel repetitive,” he explained. “Also the mood changes a lot.”
