Shovel Knight Coming to the Nintendo Switch

Yesterday, Yacht Club Games, the company behind Shovel Knight, dropped a bombshell. In a post on their website, they revealed a ton of plans they have in store for Shovel Knight in 2017, not the least of which is a port to the new Nintendo console, the Switch, due in the spring.

Shovel Knight will be coming to the Switch as Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, which will effectively be a compilation of the various current and future campaigns the game offers. Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove will include Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope (the new name given to the original Shovel Knight campaign in which you play as Shovel Knight himself) as well as the expansions Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows and Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment. Yacht Club is also working on an as-of-yet unnamed campaign that will allow the player to play as King Knight, which will be available later in 2017.

Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove will also include the two-player co-op mode, which was previously only available on the Wii U version of Shovel Knight. Also planned for later in the year will be Battle Mode, which will allow up to four players to play in a duel of sorts.

Along with the Switch version, Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove will also be coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and computers (PC, Mac, and Linux). Everyone who already owns Shovel Knight on one of these consoles will automatically be given Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, as well as all its bonuses such as new campaigns, for free upon release.

Since Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove will have much more content than the original Shovel Knight, the price will be increased in the spring, so Yacht Club urges everyone who’s interested to buy Shovel Knight now and get upgraded to Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove for free when it comes out before the price increase.

Below is the trailer for the Specter of Torment campaign.
