Shinji Mikami says PS4 and Xbox One “almost identical”

Suffice to say, the past few months have been tough on Microsoft and their forthcoming Xbox One. Early reports from anonymous sources claimed the “Xbox One is weaker and it’s pain to use its ESRAM.” In an interview for this months Edge Magazine, Shinji Mikami, legendary game designer and creator of Resident Evil, had more kind and unbiased words.

We only need one console. Why do I have to make two versions of a game? And when Xbox One was first announced it had lower specs than PS4, but now they’re almost identical.

So either will do.

He’s undoubtedly referring to Microsoft boosting the Xbox One’s CPU and GPU. This was obviously a strategic move in order to level the technical playing field, although in the end it all comes down to the talent behind the games, which is what the core of Mikami’s statement means. He doesn’t care what he’s developing on as long as he has something to develop on.

The new console generation begins in less than a month. Get ready!
