Developer Flying Wild Hog and publisher Devolver Digital have announced that Shadow Warrior 2 will finally be coming to consoles later this week, becoming available on Xbox One and PS4 this Friday May 19th. The game has been available for PC via Steam since October of last year.
In a post made on the US PlayStation Blog, community manager Tadek Zielinski explains that the PS4 and Xbox One releases of Shadow Warrior 2 will release as part of the “The Shadow Warrior Collection”, adding the original Shadow Warrior Classic at no additional cost. “Our hope is that fans of the first game will appreciate how Shadow Warrior 2 takes everything to the next level”, states Zielinski in the article, “and that new players will enjoy the free download of Shadow Warrior alongside their purchase of Shadow Warrior 2.”
Shadow Warrior 2 builds upon the signature gameplay style introduced in the original Shadow Warrior, combining shooter-style action with the series’ trademark melee combat. The game offers dozens of weapons options, including handguns and assault rifles for ranged assaults, as well as katanas and chainsaws for when it’s time to get up close and personal with the baddies.
The blog post shares that the development team of Shadow Warrior 2 took great care in making sure this “ninja feel” was implemented appropriately, allowing for the seamless transition of gameplay from running-and-gunning to hacking-and-slashing and back at a moment’s notice, without interrupting the flow of combat. This included extensive testing on the PlayStation 4 DualShock controller to ensure that players had access to enough tools to make weapon management sleek and efficient.
Shadow Warrior 2 also offers online cooperative play in a non-linear campaign that allows players to accomplish some key missions in a specific order while veering off into side missions to collect new weapons and items while leveling up their persistent character.
Shadow Warrior 2 hits PS4 on May 19, 2017.
