Shadow of the Colossus PS4 Remake Gets a Release Date

During Paris Games Week, Sony released new details and confirmed a February 2018 launch date for the PlayStation 4 remake of Shadow of the Colossus. The remake was announced at this year’s E3 and will feature modernized and improved graphics and gameplay. In post on PlayStation’s blog, Sony reiterated that the game is not a ported or remastered version of the original. “The beloved all-time classic has been completely rebuilt by the team at Bluepoint Games,” Sony wrote. “Shadow of the Colossus will be their largest project ever, and as you’ve seen from the footage we’ve been able to share so far, they have re-engineered a gaming masterpiece with amazing care and precision.”

Sony also outlined Shadow of the Colossus enhancements for the PS4 Pro, writing that it “runs at a dynamic 4K resolution targeting 30 fps.” PS4 Pro owners will also have the option to run the game at 60 fps at the cost of a lower resolution. Sony’s Paris Games Week trailer showcases the game’s introduction sequence, in order to “showcase the extent of this remake and the care with which it is being handled.”

Shadow of the Colossus launches on February 6th, 2018; players will be able to pick it up (or preorder it) for $39.99. In the meantime, you can check out the latest trailer below.

Glenn Carreau: Hi! I'm Glenn: recent college grad specializing in interactive arts and media, writer, game creator and connoisseur, pop culture junkie, and semi-professional fan-artist and blogger. In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
