SEGA Announces Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. on Steam Featuring Rollback Netcode and Gameplay Adjustments

We’ve written before about how, for the longest time, the best way to play Virtua Fighter 5 was hilariously (and depressingly) through the in-game arcades of RGG Studios’ Judgement, however in the past week SEGA has been generous enough to give players an actual option to experience one of the most complex and intricately created 3D fighting games ever created on the PC through Steam and with rollback netcode no less when they announced Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.

As the tweet above states, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. comes with rollback netcode and 60fps, which are a Godsend for anyone who wants to play a fighting game and practically necessary. All previous attempts to play Virtua Fighter 5 online were a bit mixed entirely because they lacked these features, and the consistent addition of rollback netcode in fighting games, both new and rereleases spells a great future for the genre.

The note of interest that many players and potential players’ eyes will be drawn to is the gameplay balance and adjustments. For those that don’t know, Virtua Fighter 5 is old enough to vote, it’s an 18 year old game, and has pretty solidly placed its legacy. Now, gameplay balance and adjustments could just be visual bugs and unintentional gameplay bugs being corrected that SEGA never had the chance to correct in the past versions, but for all we know we might get a refreshed and completely rebalanaced Virtua Fighter 5 in place of a potential Virtua Fighter 6, that sure would be an interesting turn of events.

There is no official release date for Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O., though it is due to release during this winter, which means it can release anywhere from today to right before spring of next year. If you’re looking to play one of the most complex yet rewarding fighting games ever made, you should definitely check this out.

I love video games and video game culture, as far back as I can remember I've not only played them, I've actively participated in their communities. I hope my history in this hobby and my enthusiasm for writing helps me convey news to you accurately and succinctly.
