Yesterday at XO19, Rare revealed the next update for their action-adventure sandbox Sea Of Thieves with a monthly update trailer. According to Polygon, the new update titled The Seabound Soul is another lore-based Tall Tale adventure that will allow players to explore a brand new story, and will also include a new weapon and some cosmetics that players can fight over.
The trailer revealed that the update will follow the adventures of the player as they accompany Captain Pendragon in order to uncover the mysteries of the ghost ship the Ashen Dragon. The trailer also revealed that players will also be able to use a new weapon known as the fire bombs. The fire bombs will allow players to rain fire down on anyone who stands in their way. Another new addition brought by the update is the various cosmetics that can be won in the arena’s competitive multiplayer mode.
Rare also announced that the company will be developing a new IP known as Everwild. The company hasn’t revealed much about the game outside of its announcement and trailer. The game is still in the early development stages so it is unknown when the game will be released but Rare did state that their team is, “focused on building an experience that allows for new ways to play in a natural and magical world.”. The company also stated that Sea Of Thieves will remain the main focus of the company. In regards to how the company felt about dividing their resources between two games, Rare stated that, “Having two large games in development represents a tremendous opportunity for Rare and the talented staff here as we grow and further evolve the studio to meet the challenges of simultaneously operating a successful live service and being in pre-production for a new IP,”. The Soulbound Sea will be released on November 20th and will be entirely free.
