It’s been an unbelievable week for developer Sabotage Studio. Their newest IP, Sea of Stars, released a little more than a week ago to critical acclaim, and in the process became an indie title sensation. This was emphasized by their day 1 sales total where they sold more than 100 thousand copies. That is an insane achievement already, but this newest tidbit of information blows that out of the water. Sabotage has revealed that Sea of Stars has now officially sold more than 250 thousand units in the first week of availability, an astonishing feat for an indie title.
As if that wasn’t enough, the studio also revealed that with this newest sales statistic, they have officially achieved their first-year sales projection number within that small timeframe. Yes, you read that correctly, The tile was able to not only reach the studio’s estimated sales number for their first year to year, it completely demolished it in less than a seven-day span. That in and of itself is nothing short of absolutely amazing.
Sea of Stars was released for several platforms, including the Xbox Game Pass where subscription users were able to get the game for no extra cost on launch day. In addition, there’s also a demo of the title on the Nintendo Switch eShop. Sea of Stars is a mix of different genre types, most predominantly the RPG aspect. It also uses puzzle-style mechanics with turn-based features during combat, a unique take that borrows from the Super Mario RPG/Paper Mario series. As we mentioned earlier, the game was critically acclaimed, being heralded as one of the best indie titles of 2023. With the studio making more content for DLC, we expect those sales numbers to rise exponentially before the end of the year.
Sea of Stars is now available for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/Series S, and PC.
