Mobile gacha gaming and Mobile Suit Gundam seem like a match made in heaven, especially considering Gundam is an IP owned by the infamously lucrative Bandai Namco. And yet, Gundam has been distressingly absent from mobile gaming, and video games in general, since Gundam Breaker Mobile ceased service in 2023. But now the Gundams are back, on mobile, with SD Gundam G Generation Eternal.
Released earlier in the week on April 16th, SD Gundam G Generation is Gundam’s glorious return to mobile gacha gaming. Obviously this is something that the people have been craving since Gundam Breaker Mobile went down because as of this morning G Generation has crossed 2 million downloads and that number is only going to go up as we’re not even a week into the game’s life.
Gundam has always been a franchise that has had a surprisingly low representation in contemporary gaming. People want more stories, more fun mecha gameplay, more… anything really regarding Gundam in the gameplay front. Some people (sickos) even just want to stick Zock arms on their Jegans and that’s a lot of the appeal of games like this.
You sadly can’t customize your mobile suits in SD Gundam G Generation but you do have a pretty robust roster of suits, almost rivaling that of Gundam Battle Operation 2 (the other concurrent Gundam game) which, if you know anything about GBO2, is an extremely impressive library of mobile suits and as I said we’re not even a week in yet. And unlike GBO2, you have mobile suits from numerous different Gundam AUs and not just the Universal Century.
SD Gundam G Generation Eternal is available to download for free from the Google Play Store, whether you’re a Gundam veteran or someone just getting into the franchise from Witch From Mercury and GQuuuuuuX, it’s definitely worth checking out for that price tag.
