Sci-Fi Mystery VR Game ‘Torn’ Arrives This Spring

Aspyr Media has released an announcement trailer and accompanying post for its new upcoming VR game Torn. The game, which Aspyr compared genre-wise to a “dark sci-fi mystery in the style of Black Mirror” and “a classic episode of The Twilight Zone,” will be available later this spring.

Neill Glancy, Aspyr’s Creative Director of New IP, offered some insight into the story and gameplay of Torn. “Torn takes place in the mansion of a physicist who disappeared 64 years ago,” Glancy wrote. “The mansion brims with strange, Willy Wonka-like machines haphazardly installed into its walls and floors. The question is what are they for? And, more importantly, what happened to the people who built them?”

Within this mansion you will, according to Glancy, find all sorts of reality-altering objects. “Soon after entering the mansion, you will discover a strange tool that allows you to manipulate gravity. This gravity tool can lift titanic objects and reveal hidden circuits and mechanisms built into the fabric of the mansion. By detecting and fixing hidden circuit puzzles you will begin to bring the mansion back online and awaken its mysterious devices. And when the mansion comes alive, that’s when things really get interesting…”

Glancy also revealed a couple of the creatives contributing to the project. Among Torn‘s developers are writer Susan O’Connor, who worked on Tomb Raider and Bioshock, and composer Garry Schyman, who composed the scores for Bioshock and Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor.

Here’s the announcement trailer for Torn, which will be available to play for the PlayStation 4.

Glenn Carreau: Hi! I'm Glenn: recent college grad specializing in interactive arts and media, writer, game creator and connoisseur, pop culture junkie, and semi-professional fan-artist and blogger. In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
