Volition, the studio responsible for the over-the-top Saints Row series, have announced their next project titled Agents of Mayhem. The game was revealed on IGN and already has a cinematic announcement trailer.
Agents of Mayhem takes place in a futuristic Seoul, Korea filled with sleek skyscrapers, robotic police, and lots of drones. The three agent of M.A.Y.H.E.M shown in the trailer are Fortune, Hardtack, and Hollywood. Fortune, real name Marina Santos, looks like an agile character who can use her drone Glory in battle. Hardtack, real name Ishmael Funderburke, has a sailor theme going on and uses a hookshot to grapple enemies and large objects. Then there’s Hollywood, real name Rod Stone, who looks like your typical handsome video game protagonist. Hollywood uses a stunt double in the trailer, which may be an ability you can use in the game.
Then there’s the villain, whose name hasn’t been revealed but is part of an enemy army called L.E.G.I.O.N. The trailer definitely captures the tongue-in-cheek nature of the Saints Row series, albeit with less giant dildos. The villain even looks like Dennis Hopper’s character in Water World, complete with a big metal thing over one eye.
According to IGN, Agents of Mayhem will be a “exclusively single-player open-world action game featuring characters with cool guns, gadgets, and abilities to toy around with.”
We can expect the developers of Saints Row to make something over-the-top and fun. It’s interesting that it will be single-player, but that hopefully means more time can be spent polishing the campaign. We should be able to see some actual gameplay for Agents of Mayhem during E3 2016, and we’ll keep you updated as more details come up.
