Rust is a multiplayer survival based game in which players use voice chat to interact with other players on the same server. Developed by Facepunch studios, it was first released as early access in December of 2013 and was later fully released in February of 2018. Since its release, the game has skyrocketed in popularity, boasting an average of ~63,000 daily players and positive reviews across multiple platforms. Like most other major games, Rust holds holiday events, such as the upcoming Halloween Mode. For a game like Rust, the Halloween mode takes a unique form, introducing new content, items, and game updates.
Set to arrive on the 28th of October, this event will bring back last year’s Trick or Treat mode and add a new Frankenstein’s Monster mode to the game.
In Trick or Treat, players will involve a candy hunt across the map, which becomes available every two in-game days. The top three players who collect the most candy will be rewarded in the form of extra loot in their loot bags. Even players who don’t manage to quite make the podium have the chance to upgrade their loot.
The loot players can win include items as simple as housing upgrades to the coveted M249, one of the most desirable weapons in the game!
Now, onto the real star of this year: The Frankenstein Mode. During the Halloween event, mummies and scarecrows will spawn on Rust maps, allowing players to kill them for parts. Once players manage to collect a head, torso, and legs, they can then craft a Frankenstein table and place their parts on it to create their very own Frankenstein’s monster. This monster will then follow players across the map, attacking anyone who the player targets or anyone who targets the player.
On top of the two game modes that will be part of the event, Rust will also be holding a pumpkin carving contest for players. Players will need to obtain a carvable pumpkin in game and then submit their pumpkins via Twitter using the hashtag #RustHalloween. There will be a first and second place winner, with the prizes being skins and DLC keys.
The Rust Halloween event is set to commence tomorrow, on October 28th.
