Level Infinite has recently announced that the acclaimed game Rust will be receiving a mobile release, with them leading the officially licensed mobile adaptation. Facepunch Studios has given Level Infinite the license with a debut promised at gamescom 2025, according to a press release.

Rust is known for being one of the only games of its kind, combining a vast open world, base building, and almost complete freedom to do whatever one pleases. That leads to the game being PvP-centric; the game is known for its high-octane combat, raids, and players grouping up into entities called zergs. While other titles such as the Ark: Survival franchise share a few of these similarities, Ark places a greater focus on PvE mechanisms with a less fine-tuned combat system and a reduced focus on resource management. Rust’s focus on PvP has caused a rise in popularity in recent years, where it has also developed its infamous reputation for having quite a toxic community.

Level Infinite promises that the mobile version of Rust will recreate the brutal survival experience with innovations that will fine tune the mechanics for mobile devices. The promise of a survival experience, open world game, and streamlined combat experience seem far-fetched considering the software limitations that need to be worked around. On top of these promises Level Infinite claims to have “tailored for mobile lifestyles” by creating a gameplay experience that’s easier to commit to on commutes or at home.

How these promises, optimizations, and tailoring will be achieved is still unclear, particularly as it’s unclear whether the game will be cross platform or support the modding infamous on Rust servers. The game is set to debut at Gamescom from August 20th to 24th, with a reveal of gameplay features, and the ability to try the game hands-on. Pre-registration for the game has already begun on the official Rust Mobile website.
