In 2015, OpenIV took to crack open Grand Theft Auto 5, and now in 2017, the Russian Modders have their own plan to mod the game: add Liberty City from Grand Theft Auto 4.
“The Liberty City will not replace Los Santos or Blaine County, but appears across the sea,” the group said. “Using the power of OpenIV and openFormats, we [were] able to bring Liberty City to the GTA V map.”
The groups response to adding Liberty City, one of the largest maps to even larger GTA V map was “Because why not.”
There are not any screen shots available for fans to see, nor is there a deadline for the mod’s release. OpenIV said that they will release it “as soon as possible.” The mod will require having both Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto V because the mod will work by converting the city from the former game’s file and copying it over to the latter’s. The converter tool as well as different assets will create a “single player DLC pack that will then install itself into GTA V.”
The project was explained in full in Q and A session:
Q: Does Liberty City requires unofficial multiplayer clients?
A: Of course, not.Q: Will this tool work with Episodes from Liberty City?
A: Yes.Q: Can I play with this mod Online with my friends?
A: No, you will not be able to play online because Rockstar Games does not allows mods in GTA Online.Q: Will I get banned in GTA Online with this mod?
A: With a high probability, yes.Q: How can I help?
A: In a future, we will need help with creating some arts, additional assets, testing etc. We will announce it separately.
Before OpenIV set to mod GTA V and Max Payne 3, it started with modding GTA IV, hence the group’s name. The trailer states that “it is time to go back to where it all started,” but it is unknown players will be going to where it all started.
