It’s been well over a year since Insomniac shocked the video game community and announced that they were working on a brand new Wolverine title. Since then there’s been next to no information about the title, let alone any sort of release time frame. While we’re still waiting on the studio to give us some official information, Giant Bomb reporter and well known leaker Jeff Grubb revealed on Twitch stream that the game is being driven towards the M for Mature rating. In addition, Grubb also stated that the game could potentially launch as early as 2024, but will more than likely be released sometime in 2025.
On top of all that, Grubb also added that the Wolverine title will try to stray away from the Fox Film X-Men series. “They will avoid having any links or anything that evokes the Fox movies – they want it to stand on its own.” Grubb said in the stream. Grubb also pointed out that Insomniac is preparing to release Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 this Fall which would make the production of Wolverine stagnate a bit due to the final preparations for the former.
When Wolverine was initially revealed in September 2021, the game was in the very early developmental stages. The fact that we even got a teaser trailer is nothing short of amazing, especially considering that the studio is apparently trying to make the production time as compact as possible. The game is being developed by Brian Horton and Cameron Christian, both of whom were creative leads on Spider-Man: Miles Morales. It’ll more than likely be a while before the studio has anything concrete to show us, but with the rich history of Insomniac’s excellent production value, the wait will be more than worth it.
