Rumor: Alan Wake Remaster Listed in Time for Halloween

A remaster of 2010’s Alan Wake could be on the way, and soon. Let’s get this out of the way early: There’s been no official confirmation that an Alan Wake remaster is coming, so for now take this with a grain of salt. Last June, a remaster of Alan Wake was spotted in backend data from the Epic Games Store, as IGN reports. This is already a good sign, but more recently Twitter user Wario64 spotted the Alan Wake remaster listed on Rakuten Taiwan, a Taiwanese store.

Unfortunately, the links have been taken down since being posted online, but IGN reports that at the time of posting, all these links did indeed take shoppers to listings for PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. All versions had some nifty box art designed for the new consoles, which gives even more reason to believe these rumors are true.

Industry insider Daniel Ahmad responded to the tweet by simply saying: “Will be announced next week.” Many have pointed out that this coincides with the 2021 Playstation Showcase airing September 9th, which is set to reveal the “future of PS5.” That future might be coming a lot sooner than fans expect since these listings have given the Alan Wake remaster an October 5th release date, just in time for Halloween. Again, these are all unconfirmed, so don’t start marking your calendars just yet, but it’s safe to say that the Alan Wake remaster is happening.

Alan Wake has just recently made a guest appearance in the second DLC expansion for Control, simply titled AWE. The DLC sees the game’s protagonist drawn into a new area of the Oldest House by Alan’s disembodied voice and is full of secrets and Easter eggs for fans of both games to discover.

Alan Wake itself was a game praised for its haunting environments and near-perfect use of the supernatural in a world that was still firmly grounded in reality. One can only imagine how a remaster could improve upon the atmosphere and gameplay of the 2010 original.
