RPG Card Game ‘Hand of Fate 2’ Releases for Xbox One

Defiant Development’s card game-within-a-game, Hand of Fate 2, launched for Xbox One and Xbox One X on December 1st. The game initially released for PC and PlayStation 4 in early November to generally favorable reviews, and though Hand of Fate 2‘s Xbox launch was supposed to coincide with the Xbox One X’s, it was delayed due to testing issues which have since been resolved.

The Hand of Fate sequel combines a third-person RPG with a high-stakes card game, where each card in the player’s deck must be played out as part of the adventure. “Like the original, Hand of Fate 2 is a dungeon crawler set in a dark fantasy world, where players must master a living board game of infinitely replayable quests,” Defiant wrote in a launch day post on the Xbox news blog. “Every stage of the adventure is drawn from a deck of cards collected and curated by the player, and these cards represent everything from finding a magical sword in a cave to being ambushed on the road by an ogre. Players need to build their adventure deck wisely, as their opponent, the enigmatic Dealer, has challenging cards of his own that must be countered through strategic card selection, roleplaying, tactical real-time combat and sometimes, just dumb luck.”

“Hand of Fate 2‘s new campaign mode is built around 22 challenging scenarios that will push players’ deckbuilding skills to the limit,” Defiant added. “Our challenges are designed for multiple playthroughs, so if you don’t get the gold medal in the battle against Drakmar the Mighty, don’t fret! Jump ahead, unlock some new equipment and encounters, and come back with a fresh deck. There are multiple solutions to each problem, so get experimenting.”

Hand of Fate 2 is available now on Steam for PC, for Xbox One and for PlayStation 4.

I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
