Unfortunately, the video game industry has seen a lot of layoffs over the past few years. According to developer Farhan Noor, who has been tracking job cuts, around 13,000 games industry employees have been laid off so far this year – up from a total of 10,500 in 2023. However, there have been some positive developments despite all of the chaos – case in point with Romero Games, founded by veteran developer John Romero and his wife Brenda. This year, Romero Games is celebrating its 10th anniversary and with that, they have revealed some of the new benefits that employees will be receiving as they plan to move into a larger office in 2025.
We’re celebrating 10 incredible years at Romero Games, and we couldn’t be more thankful.
A special thank you to @bittersweet_cakes_by_zoe for the beautiful cake, and to our amazing team and supporters. None of this would be possible without your belief in us. 🖤 pic.twitter.com/ra8OEMNznU

Romero Games is based in Galway, Ireland and currently includes more than 75 employees, made up of people all over the world. The core of which comes from Ireland and other countries in the EU and the UK. Romero noted that each year, the leadership team adds more benefits for the team and that 2024 is no exception.
In these 10 years, we’ve established a studio in Galway, expanded and moved into new offices 3x with a 4th expansion expected in 2025. We’re just past 75 people now across all disciplines, and we’ve retained our inclusive, welcoming culture.

Romero noted “In an industry that is exceptionally turbulent, celebrating this anniversary is significant and we don’t take it for granted,” Romero continued. “With that said, thank you to our amazing team and to all of you who look forward to playing our games.”
