Rockstar has been quiet about what is happening internally, but recently new rumours began to surface of a new game in the works. Popular guesses have been a new entry into GTA or Bully, but an oddball name has been appearing. If leaks and rumors have any merit, then a new IP under the name Project Medieval is under works.
A Reddit post made the claim about Project Medieval being under production according to their unspecified sources. This, of course, should be taken with a grain of salt, but it did state the game was going to be set in the medieval era with a heavy emphasis on sword fighting and dueling. The post also said that the release date aimed for the first quarter of 2021 with an announcement of the game, not a long ways away.
Gamesradar+ reports that character artist Pawas Saxena was “creating modular environment pieces for with organic finish carefully following medieval architectural style.” The game was supposedly shelved a few years back, but it seems to be back in development. This information comes from a now edited LinkedIn profile, but Ladbible was supposedly able to secure a screenshot of the profile before the edit, showing the citation of developing a medieval architecture that is under question.
Sword and shield games, like this is rumored to be, are decided by how well the combat system is. That is a mechanic that Rockstar has not had a major focus on in their recent releases such as GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2. Most likely, Rockstar is working on a new GTA or even blowing the dust off of old IPs such as Bully. Though with Mordhau and Kingdom Come: Deliverance’s popularity, Project Medieval is not an impossibility but it still would an unusual move to depart from their franchises to enter untested waters.
