Today, Rockstar Games announced that the 2019 holiday season was a record-breaking year for both Grand Theft Auto Online and Red Dead Online. Even in its seventh year, Grand Theft Auto Online broke two records during the holidays and Red Dead Online has come a long way from its initial start in beta. In celebration for record-breaking numbers, they have announced new rewards and bonuses coming to both games as well as talking about what’s next for Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Online in 2020.
2019 was a big year for Grand Theft Auto Online because the number of players who were playing the game were broken twice. In July and August, the daily, weekly, and monthly average of players in the game were broken due to the release of The Diamond Casino & Resort. The numbers were broken in December with the release of The Diamond Casino Heist. These two updates were the biggest that Grand Theft Auto has seen and it made December 2019 the largest month ever in terms of player numbers.
The records don’t just stop at playing Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online. 2019 was the game’s biggest year in views on YouTube. The game’s biggest seven-day period ever occurred between December 30-January 5. The week ending on January 12, 2020, was also a milestone in terms of engagement via likes and comments.
Rockstar said, “it’s great to see so many talented creators who inspire and entertain helping to share the fun and possibilities of these games with the entire world.”
In celebration of their record-breaking holiday season, Rockstar Games has revealed new rewards and bonuses coming to each of their games. Grand Theft Auto Online will receive its biggest c.ash giveaway ever with $2,000,000. You can get $1,000,000 by playing before February 5. You can get another $1,000,000 by playing between February 6-12. The giveaway starts on January 30.
Red Dead Online players will get a series of gifts including free access to special roles, special role item giveaways and more. This includes The Gunslinger’s Cache which earned if you play between January 28-February 3and The Bounty Hunter’s Kit when you play between February 4-10.
The Gunslinger’s Cache includes a free Schofield Revolver, a free Varmint Rifle, and the Devastating Ammo Bundle that includes 100x Split Point Revolver Ammo, 100x High-Velocity Pistol Ammo, 100x Express Repeater Ammo, 100x Slug Shotgun Ammo, and 20x Explosive Rifle Ammo. The Bounty Hunter’s Kit includes a Free Bounty Hunter license, 25x Bolas, and 25x Tracking Arrows.
Rockstar Games also talked about what’s coming next for both games. They said that “there is still much more to come in 2020. Next up for GTA Online is the addition of an open-wheel racing series featuring all-new vehicle types – with tense, high speed, track-based racing where tight cornering, tactical tire choices and perfectly timed pit stops make every second count. Plus, expect more big updates and a few surprises as we move forward into the year. As we have hinted at in the past, the world of Red Dead Online will also continue to grow in 2020 as we expand the concept of Frontier Pursuits with additional roles, new missions and many more significant updates to come.”
