Soleil Ltd, a developer with close ties to Valhalla Game Studios, the studio behind the Tomonobu Itagaki-directed title Devil’s Third, has just released title onto Early Access earlier today. The title, Rockshot is a free-to-play shooter that is currently headed by the former developer behind Ninja Gaiden as well as Dead Or Alive. The game mimics the gameplay of Devil’s Third‘s shooting/slashing perspective, but the game also adds an element of construction within it.
There is an important base building mechanic that involves players constructing buildings in order to “increase their sphere of dominance.” Rockshot not only mimics the game’s style of play, but it also seems to be a spiritual successor to Devil’s Third online counterpart which was released only on PC. The title was announced back in 2015 and was released in 2016, but it only lasted a year before being taken down.
Rockshot’s official description reads:
Cut your teeth and earn experience in many familiar game modes, while enjoying some less familiar fare involving chickens, melons and zombies in regularly rotating event game modes. Perfect your melee combos using your favorite toys from a wide range of weaponry, including katanas and “Flying Vanguard” electric guitars. Or go apocalyptic and pound your enemies with surgical airstrikes to earn additional fire power, outfits and items for your team base.
It is noted that the PC version was shut down right after the game’s Wii U version had it’s online features discontinued as well. Rockshot is set to stay in Early Access for the next six months with four game modes that will be available during the whole period four modes; Raid, Team Deathmatch and Free for All. The game will also include nine different maps for players to choose from. Soleil also stated that There will also be a regularly rotating event mode.
