Rocket League Sells 5 Million Copies With 15 Million Active Players

The insanely fun Rocket League has reached a new milestone in the gaming community. According to Polygon the game has sold over 5 million copies and has just above 15 million active players. This is a true achievement as the game has only been out for 11 months.

These sales are also completely separate from those free downloads Playstation gave to its Playstation Plus members. The profit from the game is near $110 million dollars, a huge margin compared to the mere $2 million it cost developer Psyonix to make it. Rocket League has apparently left from the constraints of being a cult hit and is now realizing its mainstream potential.

The 15 million active players for Rocket League  are about double what they were in december. Even with this drastic increase the community demand for more RL is growing. Since its launch on Xbox Rocket League has seen an increase in players. The estimate for the increase is around 5 million.

Support for Rocket League is expected to be strong in the coming months with DLC that is free and only making players pay for new vehicles. RL also added a basketball mode  few months ago, following a hockey mode last November.

Perhaps the most exciting news about RL is that Psyonix brought cross-platform play to the Xbox One version earlier last meek, this makes gaming for people on console to play with people on PC. Psyonix would eventually like to get PS4/Xbox One multiplayer, however that depends on Sony and Microsoft working together which is just as likely as pigs flying.

Go get those goals!
